"My Interaction with Social Media: LJ1"

In mi life social media allow me to interact with my family who are in other parts of the world as well as friends, to share music, fashion, etc. On social media I can find news or inform myself about events that are happening. Certainly, social media have gained prominence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. When I started on Internet, I started with "Hotmail" because it included a messaging service. Also, I used different chat rooms which allowed me to talk and play with people on the world. Due to the boom of Facebook, I created my profile as it offered an inclusive and more interactive platform. When I first started interacting on the Internet, it was certainly less secure than it is now, so you could easily end up with your online service site accounts hacked. However, it was even more fun to browse the web to find the wonderful easy ways to unlock our accounts through programs or free codes that were put there by programmers to help those in need. No doubt, when I first started out in cyberspace, I would have wanted to know that the web was not a safe place. Therefore, I should not believe or click on everything within your reach through it.

My Facebook account, no doubt I opened it because many of my friends already had it. The first thing, I posted was a photo with my family. Over the years I have improved what I post, such as stories with my family, important news, and experiences. Also, I have improved my skills in managing my social media as well as enforcing security and privacy. An example of this is that initially my Facebook was public, now it is only visible to my friends. Whit this action I prevent invitations from strangers to have access to my personal information. When I started surface on Internet, I would like to know that is not safe and is not real. However, it allow us to express ourselves. In my case, all the friends I have on Facebook is to continue developing my friendship ties and/or to further strengthen family ties.

On the other point, selfies allow me to capture important or daily moments that I want to share with my social circle and if it is to my liking since I use them always. However, I believe the social media need rules, with images that we publish on them can be stolen and used by third parties for bad purposes. In the same way, what is allowed to be published must be regulated to avoid offensive and inappropriate words and/or images to protect the integrity of the people who browse these websites. Social media certainly helps us significantly to stay connected with others, but it can also spread a misconception of what is suggested as accepted beauty or "stereotypes." Which foster and increase the insecurities that people can have and who may believe that to be accepted they must conform to these stereotypes. Because this is dangerous for those of us who access social media and it is important to work on our self-esteem and mental health daily.

Finally, for my part, I would not abandon the social media that I use, which are Facebook and WhatsApp, since I try to manage them consciously so that they do not influence my social life outside the web. Since these networks are important but more important is to develop our interpersonal skills.

Metrics and Analytics: LJ2

After reading the article "We are data" by John Cheney-Lippold, I have understood that technology has become an important part of our interaction in personal and professional life. As the author mentions, our activity on the web provides us with an online identity that does not necessarily match our identity in real life (p.4). This interaction allows the algorithms created by different companies such as Google to create a database to offer us through its interpretation what we need, such as news that may interest us, advertising, etc. Since as the author mentions, this database is created by all the information that we enter on the web and/or on the pages we visit (p. 6). Hence the author's statement, with which I agree, that we are “data.” Since this database is created thanks to all the information that we provide voluntarily and anonymously.      In fact, and as the author mentions, this database with which the algorithms have built our online ...

Social Media, Metrics, and Analytics: LJ3

During the last two weeks in this class, I read about Microblogging and how social media can be used for research. Therefore, part of the readings are based on metrics and analysis with the use of Social Media. These readings make me understand the article "We are data" by John Cheney-Lippold , where he tells us that technology has become an important part of our personal and professional lives. Since we constantly share information with the Internet and it is being collected to be shared with third parties. A microblogging according to Nations, D. (2019) , mentions that it is a mixture of blogs and instant messaging, achieving a faster form of communication that allows sharing short messages online with other users. Among the social medias that are considered Microblogging are Twitter, Tumbler, and Instagram. This type of content has become extremely popular because it allows sharing not only text but also images, videos, audio, and hyperlinks. According to the readi...
